History of the West Cork Drama
Festival
The West Cork Drama Festival has its home in St. Mary's
Theatre Rossmore a wee village half way between the towns of Clonakilty and
Dunmanway. Since its inception in 1956 the West Cork Drama Festival Rossmore
has come a long way. In the early years the participating drama groups came
mainly from the West Cork area. In 1973 a new Drama Festival Committee was
formed and since joining the Amateur Drama of Ireland drama groups from all
over Ireland have presented their shows at the West Cork Drama Festival.
Over the years Theatre Troupes have enjoyed the hospitality of the Rossmore Committee and the warm appreciation of West Corks sizable and
discerning audiences. Three All Ireland Finals have been hosted under the
auspices of the A.D.C.I in Rossmore - One Act Finals in 1982, Confined
Finals in 1983 and 1984. Today the festival ranks with the best in
terms of lighting, sound and seating.
